Bogotá/New Delhi : In a significant diplomatic development, Colombia has rescinded an earlier expression of solidarity extended to Pakistan following India's Operation Sindoor — a recent military operation by India in Pakistani territory, claimed to be aimed at dismantling cross-border militant infrastructure.
The diplomatic shift comes after a visit by a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation to Bogotá, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. During a crucial meeting with Colombia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, the Indian delegation voiced its objections to Colombia's previous stance, which had overlooked the broader context of India's military campaign.
Following the meeting, Colombia's Foreign Ministry issued a clarification, confirming the retraction of its initial condolence message and acknowledging India's position. Sources close to the Indian delegation stated that the discussions helped reinforce the legitimacy of India's recent counter-terror actions under Operation Sindoor.
This development forms part of a broader diplomatic outreach by New Delhi aimed at combating disinformation and shaping global narratives around India's anti-terror operations.
The Ministry of External Affairs continues to review the episode but has termed the outcome a positive step. Similar engagements are being pursued with other nations to build international consensus on India's efforts to tackle terrorism, government sources added.
On the other hand, Pakistan has also launched a series of international diplomatic engagements in response to the recent military skirmishes and cross-border terrorism involving India.
To present its stance to the global community, Pakistan has formed a diplomatic delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is on foreign visits, where he has held significant meetings and signed agreements with the leaders of Iran, Türkiye, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan.
The outcome of this assertive diplomacy from both sides remains uncertain. Its effectiveness will only become clear in the coming days as the regional and international responses unfold.
